NC Small Town Main Street Annual Awards Submission

Overview:

The NC Main Street & Rural Planning Center is proud to present the annual NC Small Town Main Street Awards competition, recognizing the hard work, dedication and success of our Small Town Main Street communities and their achievements in the Four Points of the Main Street Approach to downtown revitalization: Economic Vitality, Design, Promotion, and Organization.

Entry Deadline:

  • October 2, 2019 | 5pm

Awards Ceremony:

  • March 11, 2020 | New Bern

Eligibility:

  • Any active Small Town Main Street community that met the statistics deadline for the most recent fiscal year

  • Projects must have been completed within the past two years of the submission date

  • Project must have taken place in downtown

Guidelines:

  • Each community may submit up to four nominations for downtown district projects

  • A project may be entered in only one category

  • The jury reserves the right to move an entry to a different category, if they feel there is a more appropriate fit

  • The jury reserves the right to withhold an award in any category or to designate more than one winner if they deem appropriate

  • Any previously nominated project that did not receive an award and still meets the two-year time limit may be resubmitted

  • All construction projects must meet the Secretary of the Interior’s Standards for Rehabilitation Secretary of the Interior’s Standards for Rehabilitation

  • All materials will become property of the NC Main Street and Rural Planning Center

  • Nominations must include the Small Town Main Street Coordinator’s electronic signature. By signing the online submission, the Small Town Main Street Coordinator acknowledges the submission is on behalf of their town/board of directors

Local Directors/Coordinators, please follow these easy steps to submit your nomination!

  1. Click HERE to download the INFORMATION PACKET.

  2. Click HERE to download a word document to prepare for your online submission.

  3. Click HERE to download the budget document that you must include on the flash stick for your submission.

  4. Prepare your photos - make sure you follow the instructions above.

  5. Prepare your photo script - make sure you follow the instructions above.

  6. Obtain a map of your downtown and identify on the map where the project took place IN YOUR DOWNTOWN.

  7. Write your submission on the word document form.

  8. Get someone to proof your submission.

  9. Copy and paste your submission below.

  10. Mail a flash stick with the additional required documents to:

The North Carolina Main Street Conference is an annual 3-day conference held in one of our beautiful Main Street Communities. The venue changes each year, as do the speakers, sponsors and class offerings.

The purpose of the conference is to give you an opportunity to network and learn from other Main Street Communities, provide educational classes and resources to help grow and develop your communities, recognize those communities that have won our Main Street Awards and the citizens that are our Main Street Champions as well as provide news and updates from around the state and within the legislature on opportunities and services available through NC Main Street and Rural Planning Center, a division within the NC Department of Commerce.
