Wilson City Council

The Wilson City Council has been a true champion for downtown redevelopment. City Council members serve on the Wilson Downtown Development Corporation board and various committees. In addition, the City Council has taken a key leadership role in recent years, entering into creative public-private partnerships and making strategic public infrastructure improvements. These decisions have resulted in projects such as: saving critical historic buildings from demolition and putting them back into active reuse; rebuilding streets and sidewalks; creating the Vollis Simpson Whirligig Park; and constructing new facilities to house 700 employees of BB&T, Wilson’s largest employer. Under the City Council’s watch, investment in downtown has more than doubled in the last five years. The Wilson Downtown Development Corporation honors the Wilson City Council as North Carolina Main Street Champion.
